Gabon head coach, Thierry Mouyouma has revealed how his team will approach the Super Eagles of Nigeria when both teams clash in Thursday’s 2026 World Cup qualifying playoff.

The World Cup playoff will take place in Rabat, Morocco, and the winner will take on the winner between Cameroon and DR Congo.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Mouyouma said his team will approach the Super Eagles with the intention to control the game and the midfield.

According to him, Gabon only needs to beat Nigeria 1-0 to qualify for the next round of the playoff.

“One of the keys to this match lies in the ability to control not only the game but also the midfield,” Mouyouma said at a press conference.

“I would be more focused on our ability to hold onto the ball, have more possession, not just possession for its own sake, but to dominate in our half of the field and progress together as a team.

“We have to solve this problem – control of the game or almost all of the game in the opponent’s half.

“That brings us closer to their goal because, for this match, we only need to score one goal to qualify.

“That is the tactical approach from the technical staff of the Gabonese national team.”
