Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle has hailed four of his players following Nigeria’s 4-1 win against Gabon in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff on Thursday.

The four players are Calvin Bassey, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Benjamin Fredrick and Zaidu Sanusi.

Chelle said the defenders played well against Gabon in Rabat, Morocco.

Recall that goals from Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke, and Victor Osimhen (2) gave Nigeria the victory against the Panthers.

“We conceded a goal in the last minute, but we had a better chance to finish the game at the last moment,” Chelle told reporters at his post-match interview.

“It was a new defence too. Bright, Benjamin, Calvin and Zaidu – they played well. The team was strong in defence, but we can improve every time.”

Chelle’s men will face DR Congo in the World Cup playoffs final on Sunday.
