Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has refuted claims that he made comments regarding the ongoing situation involving FIFA and the dispute between the Nigeria national football team and the DR Congo national football team concerning a potential spot in the 2026 World Cup intercontinental play-off.

Earlier reports suggested that the midfielder sought clarification from the governing body of world football and urged transparency regarding the petition allegedly filed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) contesting DR Congo’s qualification.

Nevertheless, Ndidi has now distanced himself from the purported statements.

During a discussion on the YouTube program AYSuga Channel, Ayo Olu Ibadapo mentioned that the Super Eagles captain was taken aback when the statement was presented to him.

Ibadapo stated that Ndidi firmly denied having made any comments related to the case currently under FIFA’s consideration.

“He expressed surprise that I brought it to his attention, as he did not make any such statements. He has not mentioned or spoken to anyone about it,” Ibadapo conveyed on the program.

This clarification arises amidst increasing speculation regarding Nigeria’s aspirations to secure a position in the intercontinental play-off for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The dispute reportedly originates from Nigeria’s challenge concerning the eligibility of certain players who represented DR Congo during the African play-off stage.

The case has been forwarded to FIFA for examination, although the governing body has yet to issue a final decision on the matter.
