The Super Eagles will have to wait until next FIFA rankings to confirm their opponents for the 2026 World Cup playoffs.

Nigeria defeated Benin Republic 4-0 to emerge as one of the four best runners-up from Africa.

As announced by CAF, two semi-finals will be played November 13 and then the final on November 16 in Morocco.

However, the four teams involved have to wait until the next FIFA rankings on October 23, to discover their opponents.

The highest-ranked side will face the lowest and the second-highest plays the third-highest.

Currently, Nigeria (45) are the highest-ranked African team to have finished second in qualification. This means Eric Chelle’s men are very likely to face a play-off semi-final against Gabon (79).

The winner from the African playoff will be joined by Bolivia, New Caledonia and two teams from Central America, and one from Asia.
