There is good news for Brazilians as it concerns the injury update on Neymar who is still recovering from a right calf injury.

The reports from Brazil is that Neymar is expected to return soon but there is no confirmed return date. Recent MRI scans showed that his rehabilitation is progressing well, according to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) and Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti.

What happened to Neymar?

Neymar suffered a Grade 2 calf tear while playing for Santos FC in May and has been following a specialized recovery program. He missed Brazil’s recent warm-up matches and is considered unlikely to feature in their opening 2026 World Cup match, but there is growing optimism that he could return during the group stage if his recovery continues on schedule.

Brazil’s medical staff reported “good progress” after his latest scans, and Ancelotti has stated that the federation is monitoring his condition closely before deciding when he can resume full training.

Will he play in Brazil’s opening World Cup match?

Brazil’s first match is against Morocco on June 13 as things stand, Neymar remains a doubt for that game, although he has not been ruled out completely. There is greater confidence that he could be available for Brazil’s second group-stage match if he misses the opener.

Neymar is recovering well, has avoided any setback, and remains in contention to play later in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but he is not yet fully fit for competitive action.
