The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Audu Babangida for st@bbing one Haruna Bala to d3ath during a dispute over farmland.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The incident occurred at Kafin Sarkin Yaki village in Kirfi Local Government Area of the state on Thursday, September 17.
According to the PPRO, the dispute between the two men turned violent, during which Babangida allegedly st@bbed Bala in the neck with a knife.
Bala was taken to the General Hospital, Kirfi, where he was confirmed d3ad.
The suspect fled after the incident but was arrested on Friday at River Kafin Iya while allegedly trying to cross into Gombe State.
Police added that the knife allegedly used in the attack was also recovered.
“On 17/09/2026 at about 2200hrs, a report from Shango Police Outpost indicated that one Muhammad Bello, a Village Head in Kirfi LGA, reported that a dispute over farmland between one Haruna Bala ‘m’ 25 years old and one Audu Babangida ‘m’ 22 years old, both residents of Kafin Sarkin Yaki Village escalated into a fight. In the process, the suspect allegedly st@bbed the victim on the neck with a knife,” the statement read.
“The victim was rushed to General Hospital Kirfi, where he was confirmed d3ad. The corpse was released to relatives for burial according to Islamic rites.
“Following an intensive intelligence-led manhunt, operatives of Kirfi Division on 18/09/2026 at about 1100hrs arrested the fleeing suspect at River Kafin Iya while attempting to cross to Gombe State. The exhibit (knife) was recovered.”
