The Lagos State police command has dismissed reports of an impending cult-related clash in parts of the state.

There have been rumors of a possible cult clash in Lagos following the k!lling of a middle-aged man named Adedipe Adeyinka, popularly known as “Agali.” by suspected cultists in the Surulere area of the state on Saturday, April 11.

In a statement released on Monday, April 13, the command’s spokesperson, SP Adebisi Abimbola, described the rumors of a possible clash as ‘’false’ and urged residents to remain calm. She mentioned that the command had taken proactive steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order in areas mentioned in the viral message.

Adebisi said the alert had referenced locations including Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda and the Ishaga axis, allegedly in connection with a retaliatory attack.

The statement reads

‘’The Lagos State Police Command wishes to address the circulating message alleging a possible cult-related clash in some areas of the State, particularly Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda, and Ishaga axis, purportedly in retaliation for a reported incident.

The Command wishes to categorically state that it has taken proactive and decisive measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the affected areas and beyond. Following the initial report of the incident, prompt deployment of police personnel and operational assets was carried out to all the mentioned locations and other adjoining communities.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, has directed intensified patrols, strategic positioning of officers, and increased police visibility across the identified flashpoints to ensure the safety of lives and property. The areas are well secured, and adequate security coverage has been emplaced to deter any unlawful gatherings or activities.

The Command therefore wishes to reassure members of the public that there is no cause for alarm. Residents are encouraged to go about their lawful duties without fear or apprehension, as the Police and other security agencies remain fully on ground and committed to maintaining peace and order.”
Adebisi added that members of the public are advised to disregard unverified rumours capable of creating panic and instead rely on credible information from official sources. She further advised residents of the state to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through any of the Command’s emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.
