The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man, Usman Abubakar, for allegedly s0domising a 12-year-old boy in Angwan-Daji area of Minna.
The spokesperson for the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, February 26, 2026 said the arrest followed a report received against the suspect.
According to the PPRO, the victim’s mother noticed that her son was uncomfortable and unable to sit properly.
When questioned, he mentioned the suspects, a meat seller.
The suspect was arrested and during interrogation, he confessed to the crime, stating that he used roasted meat to lure the boy to his shop.
“On 22nd February, 2026, a report was received from Angwan-Daji against one Usman Abubakar 50yrs of same area, that a boy of 12yrs was observed by the mother who noticed that he was uncomfortable, feeling pain in his anus and unable to sit properly, with bruises on his bottom,” the statement read.
“When the boy was questioned, he mentioned one meat seller around their house, who was later identified as Usman Abubakar.
“The suspect was immediately arrested by the Police operatives attached to ‘A’ Div Minna, and during interrogation, he confessed to the crime, stating that he uses roasted meat to lure the boy to his shop for the act.
“The suspect is in custody and the boy is undergoing a medical examination.
“The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, mnips strongly condemns these acts of s3xual assault/gross indecency and assures of thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspects, while urging parents/guardians to monitor and protect their children against this criminal act.
“He reiterates that the Police Command remains committed to working with relevant stakeholders such as the Child Rights’ Agency, Ministry of Women Affairs, FIDA and the Judiciary to ensure that children are protected from such harm.”
