Liverpool legend, Dietmar Hamann, has given his verdict on Manchester United’s new signing, Marcel Sabitzer.
Man United signed Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich on January transfer deadline day.
The Austrian midfielder joined Man United with no buy option after it was reported that midfielder Christian Eriksen is set to be out of action until April or early May.
Recall that Eriksen sustained an ankle injury after a strong tackle from Andy Carroll in their FA Cup fourth-round win over Reading on January 28.
Sabitzer was also linked with a move to Chelsea but he eventually joined Manchester United and Hamann believes the 28-year-old might find it hard to hit the ground running straight away at Old Trafford.
“I’m pretty surprised Chelsea and Manchester United are interested [in buying Sabitzer] because I am not sure he will help them straight away,” Hamann told Sky Sports.
“He’s a good squad player to have but whether he makes an immediate impact, I am not sure. He’s certainly not a player to replace Christian Eriksen, I think he’s a box-to-box player who has got a good engine, he is very versatile, he played full-back at times.”
