Former Manchester United and Netherlands star, Robin van Persie has suggested there is one team Erik ten Hag will not want to meet in the last 16 of the Europa League.
Manchester United defeated Barcelona 2-1 in the playoff second leg at Old Trafford on Thursday to book a place in the last 16 of the competition, having played out a 2-2 draw with the Spanish giants at Camp Nou last week.
The draw for the round of sixteen will be held on Friday and Van Persie was not entirely convinced by the Red Devils’ claim that he does not care who his side face in the next round.
Ten Hag said it does not matter to him the team his side faces in the round of 16 but Van Persie, who was interviewing his fellow Dutchman after the game on BT Sport, interjected, “I think Erik wants to play against anyone except one team. Who’s that? Feyenoord!”
Ten Hag laughed and replied: “I go to [Robin] to get all the information! No, I think it’s a possibility.”
Van Persie has been coaching at Feyenoord since retiring, though there certainly will not be any divided loyalties if the two teams were to face off.
