The returning Senator for Lagos East, Tokunbo Abiru and the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the conduct of the governorship and state assembly elections in Lagos State.

They said INEC achieved a remarkable improvement in the Saturday’s elections when compared to that of Presidential election, held on February 25.

Abiru stated this while answering questions from journalists after he and his wife, Feyisola voted at their polling unit at Aga Ijomu, Ikorodu.

The Senator and his wife arrived the polling unit 11 at about 10.15 am and we’re attended to by INEC officials.

Abiru commended INEC and officials for the orderly and peaceful conduct of the election.

He stated,

“I think we must congratulate ourselves. There is a marked improvement from what we saw the last time.

“In terms of logistics and all other things, you can see that they are better organised this time around.”

He described the conduct of the Governorship and State House of Assembly election in Ikorodu, Lagos as a remarkable improvement over that of the Presidential elections.

Abiru said the logistics were also better arranged and managed this time. “So for me, this is a marked improvement from what we saw the last time.

He said,

“So, I must congratute INEC and I must congratute ourselves. The whole process has been very peaceful and at the end of the day, we hope that the outcome will meet our expectations”, he said Abiru was also impressed with the turn out of voters and the enthusiasm they displayed.

“With what I have seen, the turn out has been very good and peaceful. The flow of voters is good and better than what we had the last time. “The queues are well managed and the administrative end were well put together.

“I think we are getting better by the dayand I think we can get better too with such values.”

Oba Shotobi, who spoke with journalists after casting his votes and inspection of some polling booths near his palace expressed happiness that the people of Ikorodu came out peacefully to exercise their voting right.

He said the conduct of governorship election was better than that of the Presidential elections.

He also noted that INEC officials were at the different polling booth as early as 7.45 am and voters have been coming out for accreditation and voting. “I have gone to some polling booths myself and I have seen that many people considered this as their civic responsibility and they have come out to show their love and support for the preferred party, the APC and his candidate, Sanwo-Olu.

He said,

“We mobilise and encourage our people to come out to perform their civic responsibility.”

He added,

“We know who knows the way and we have decided to follow the person that knows the way. They have done it before and we are confident they can do it again.”
