Former Liverpool manager, Rafa Benitez has hailed Diogo Jota, describing the Portuguese as a very clever player after his late goal sealed a dramatic 4-3 victory for the Reds over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Liverpool beat Tottenham to climb to fifth place in the Premier League table and are seven points behind Manchester United in fourth place.
As the top four battle intensifies, the Red Devils defeated Aston Villa 1-0 at Old Trafford, while third-placed Newcastle United beat Southampton to cement their places.
Liverpool raced into a 3-0 lead within the first 15 minutes but Tottenham fought back to level the game 3-3, before Jota stole the spotlight.
And Benitez, who managed Liverpool for many seasons, could not contain his admiration for Jota’s performance.
He told Premier League Productions. “You have to say, Diogo Jota is very clever. He is very good at playing through the lines, then his finishing was really, really good. Klopp told him to ‘manage the game and to control the game’.”
