Former Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard has revealed he wanted to sign West Ham United midfielder, Declan Rice, during his time in charge of the Blues.
Lampard said Rice was his top target because he saw a potential Chelsea captain in him.
The Chelsea legend disclosed this in a podcast interview with Steven Bartlett.
“I wanted to bring Declan Rice to Chelsea when I was there as a coach before, he was my top target,” he said.
“I was like… this kid, Declan, is going to be the captain of Chelsea for the next 10 years.”
Rice is currently being linked with a move to Chelsea’s city rivals, Arsenal this summer.
The 24-year-old captained West Ham to European glory last season, winning the UEFA Conference League.
