Following controversies and protests against the suspended staff audit ordered by the executive arm, Osun State House of Assembly Speaker Adewale Egbedun has said Governor Ademola Adeleke may ditch the reports.
It was reported that the Assembly suspended the staff audit ordered by Governor Adeleke on August 21 after receiving several petitions and complaints by workers’ unions among other civil servants against the Executive Vice Chairman of Sally Tibbot Consultancy Firm, Sa’adat Bakrin-Ottun, who was conducting the exercise.
Speaker Egbedun in a viral video obtained by our correspondent was seen on the floor of the Assembly with other lawmakers, blowing hot over the conduct of the consultant handling the staff audit, while defending the allegations against her.
He expressed disappointment about the conduct of the consultant, who was standing in the midst of the lawmakers.
Egbedun said,
“I never knew you are like this, I am only trying not to be emotional today. The last time we chatted, I told you that I have friends across board. I know people in the judiciary, I have a lot of club members, I receive comments, I have my house in Agunbelewo, where we have many civil servants. Everybody cannot be a liar. I said something that you can’t be the judge and be the jury. You have always been the judge and the jury, your own job is to recommend.
“I am not even sure my governor will use your report that is the truth. I was with him three days ago and we talked at length. I told him not to receive any call from you. You are not a member of the exco, your own job…you are a consultant to us in Osun, we labour so hard for this victory, we have talked about this several times.”
“The truth is that I don’t want us to waste much time here. In all honesty, what I had in mind today, which I already discussed with the deputy speaker, is to lift the suspension, then we all sit down together and find a lasting solution and a way forward. But with this, I find it very hard, maybe it’s my conscience, maybe it’s my emotion.”
He added,
“The same allegation, the same petition, the same report from the judiciary. Medical doctors are complaining, we laboured so hard for this victory. I told you that these people made us. If not for the civil servants we will not be here. I love you as a sister; unfortunately, I won’t be able to lift the suspension.”
Egbedun urged his colleagues to write their reports about their findings on the petition against the consultant and send to Governor Adeleke.
He apologised to university lecturers, civil servants among others who are victims of maltreatment from the consultant, promising that “on behalf of the House of Assembly members, we are going to make a report and we are going to send a letter of apology on her behalf. We are really sorry.”
