Former Chelsea midfielder, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has revealed who convinced him to leave the Blues and join AC Milan.

Loftus-Cheek had a nine-season stay at Chelsea – which also includes two season-long loan deals at Crystal Palace and Fulham, respectively.

The 27-year-old failed to become a first-team regular at Stamford Bridge, making only 155 appearances across competitions while scoring 13 goals and registering 18 assists.

However, the Englishman finally left Chelsea to join AC Milan over the summer transfer window in a deal worth €16 million.

Loftus-Cheek has made a rousing start to life at AC Milan, registering two assists in three Serie A games and starting all three outings.

Speaking on why he left Chelsea for the Serie A giants, Loftus-Cheek simply revealed that AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli convinced him to make a switch.

“After I played against them in the Champions League, Milan said they were interested in me. I was not thinking too much about it,” Loftus-Cheek told DAZN (via Football 365).

“There was a lot of the season left at Chelsea, but towards the end, things changed. Milan have always been a great club, after speaking with [Stefano] Pioli, I was convinced to come here.

“He wants me to be physically dominant in midfield. I think one of my characteristics is the ability to overcome many players with strength, speed and power.

“It is something I rely on a lot that is my contribution as a player. The more I can show that on the pitch, the more dominant I can be to help the team.”

AC Milan currently trail their city rivals Inter Milan at the top of the Serie A table on goal difference after three games.
