Newcastle United manager, Eddie Howe has blamed “extreme pressure” from Paris Saint-Germain’s supporters for the referee’s decision to award a controversial penalty against his side.

The Magpies looked set for a famous 1-0 win at the Parc des Princes in their penultimate Champions League group game on Tuesday night.

However, the referee awarded a penalty in added time after the ball bounced off the chest of Tino Livramento and onto his hand.

Kylian Mbappe eventually stepped up and scored from the spot.

Howe, speaking after the game, pinned the blame on the hostile fans and not the officials

“It’s not a penalty when it hits his chest first and then hits his hand which is low. I’m not allowed to sum it up.

“I can’t say my inner thoughts obviously [I’d get in trouble]. I thought the referee was having a good game up until this moment. He had been strong,” he said.
