The Kano State Hisbah Board has declared Auwal Sankara, the suspended Commissioner for Special Duties in Jigawa State, wanted over an alleged illicit affair with a married woman.

Aminu Daurawa, Hisbah Commander-General, made the announcement on Monday, October 21, stating that Sankara failed to honour an invitation for reconciliation after being arrested last week in connection with the affair. Sankara was reportedly caught in an uncompleted building with the woman.

Following the arrest, Umar Namadi, Governor of Jigawa State, suspended Sankara as a precautionary measure to enable a fair investigation into the matter.

Daurawa explained that Sankara was granted bail after his arrest, with the condition that he would appear before the Hisbah command whenever requested. However, Sankara did not attend a scheduled reconciliation meeting on Monday, prompting Hisbah to declare him wanted.

“The reason we invited him today was for reconciliation,” Daurawa told journalists in Kano. “The complainant agreed to reconcile with Sankara due to his two children. We agreed to this and invited him to come for the reconciliation.”

Daurawa added that if Sankara had appeared, they would have avoided taking the matter to court. “As Hisbah members, Islam is our guidance, and it encourages reconciliation. However, by all indications, he does not want reconciliation, so we will proceed with legal action,” he said.

Sankara, meanwhile, has dismissed the allegations as “false, malicious, and baseless” and has vowed to take legal action against those he claims are attempting to damage his reputation.
