Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has provided an update on the ongoing fitness of Rodri and the latest developments regarding Savinho’s future.
The Spaniard was speaking at the post-match press conference after the victory over Burnley in the Premier League. The victory extends the series of victories after victory over Manchester United in the Premier League, Napoli in the UEFA Champions League, and Huddersfield Town in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
There have been successes for the Cityzens in recent weeks, but injury to Rodri has been a major concern for Pep Guardiola.
What did Pep Guardiola say about Rodri’s injury?
He said,
“Rodri, yesterday [in] training, he said, ‘I’m not able to play. I have a lot of pain in my knee, I cannot play, I cannot play’. And I said, ‘You cannot play? You don’t play. So, another one is going to play’. I don’t know yet, I don’t know. (Is it the same knee that he injured?) Yeah.”
He also gave an update on Savinho’s future.
“Yeah [he’s going to sign a new long-term Manchester City contract]. Yeah, we were so clear that we wanted to keep him. It depends on the offer, maybe the offer was not good enough for the club, I don’t know. But of course, at his age, last season he played a lot of minutes, can play on both sides, right and left, has a pace that is unbelievable. So in those terms, he’s really good.”
Rodri missed almost the entirety of last season through an ACL injury. However, Manchester City supporters will hope that he returns to fitness very soon as the season gets more busy.
