Numerous stars from Real Madrid are displeased with manager Alvaro Arbeloa as the current season nears its conclusion.
Many players are said to be frustrated with Arbeloa for allegedly not providing sufficient playing time to Spanish players within the club.
Alvaro Arbeloa has only been at the helm of Real Madrid for six months, having taken over following Xabi Alonso’s resignation as head coach.
His brief tenure has not produced the anticipated outcomes, as Los Blancos are on track for a season without trophies.
They were eliminated from the Copa del Rey in the Round of 16 and the UEFA Champions League in the quarter-finals, and they currently trail Barcelona by eleven points in LaLiga, with minimal chances of clinching the title.
As reported by The Athletic journalist Guillermo Rai, via Madrid Zone, several Real Madrid players are also outraged with Alvaro Arbeloa due to his perceived neglect of Spanish players in the squad.
They feel that Arbeloa favors the team’s star players, regardless of their on-field performances.
The report further indicates that Arbeloa regards the prominent figures in the team as untouchable, while failing to provide Spanish players with adequate playing time. With the season nearing its end and only five league matches left, this could be a chance to give other players an opportunity instead of the usual starters.
Nevertheless, Arbeloa has persisted in fielding only the star players, which has reportedly strained his relationship with the squad.
Recent reports also indicate that the coach is unlikely to remain next season, as Real Madrid is already seeking to appoint a new manager this summer.
With Alvaro Arbeloa seemingly on his way out, Benfica manager Jose Mourinho has been strongly linked to a return to Real Madrid. The esteemed coach previously managed at the Bernabeu from 2010 to 2013.
However, according to statements reported by Mundo Deportivo, Jose Mourinho has asserted that he has not yet been contacted by Los Blancos.
He stated, “No one from [Real] Madrid has spoken to me. I can guarantee you that. I have one more year in my contract with Benfica.”
