England legend, Wayne Rooney, has blamed Manchester United for not re-signing Danny Welbeck.
Former Manchester United boss, Louis van Gaal sold Welbeck, an academy graduate, in 2014.
Before leaving Old Trafford, the striker had played 142 games for Manchester United but Van Gaal was not impressed with his goalscoring record and preferred Radamel Falcao.
Welbeck joined Premier League rivals, Arsenal in a £16m move but could not find his form at the club and left for Brighton.
The striker hit double figures in the Premier League last season and already has six goals this term.
Rooney has also urged England national manager, Thomas Tuchel to consider bringing the striker back to the squad.
Rooney told BBC podcast, “I’m stoked, he’s been on fire. I absolutely love Daniel, I love him.
“He’s been such a good player in the Premier League. Man United should have brought him back because he scores goals and he works hard.
“I think over the last couple of years I would have really have liked to have him back.
“But I would have wanted him back over the last few years.”
He continued, “He was brilliant. Honestly he’s such a lovely person.
“He pressed really high and was aggressive and quick with it. Really clever, good feet and he scored goals. I can’t speak highly enough of him.
“…Thomas Tuchel will definitely have to look at him.”
The last time Welbeck played for England was in 2018.
