Chelsea legend John Terry has assessed the Blues’ Premier League title prospects for the season.

Terry believes Chelsea can compete for the English top-flight crown, though he acknowledged their inconsistency in several matches this year.

Chelsea currently sit third in the Premier League table with 20 points from 11 matches. Enzo Maresca’s side finished fourth last season.

When asked on a talkSPORT television programme whether Chelsea are among this season’s title contenders, Terry said, “Look, I have always believed we are title contenders, unless we are no longer in the running [completely out of contention].

“Arsenal have several tough matches ahead, hosting Tottenham Hotspur and then traveling to face Chelsea, but to be honest, Chelsea must first focus on their own immediate tasks.

“It’s true that Chelsea have been inconsistent in some matches this year, but I think this is an inevitable part of the growth process for a young team, and eventually we will definitely gradually close in on the title race.”
