Al Nassr forward, Sadio Mane, has revealed that he turned down a move to Manchester United and joined Liverpool in 2016.
Mane was attracting a lot of interest while at Southampton and eventually signed for the Reds in a £30million deal.
The Senegalese has now explained that he wasn’t convinced by Louis van Gaal’s guarantee of game time.
“Manchester United called me that time,” Mane said on Rio Ferdinand Presents.
“I was talking to van Gaal that time. [Wayne] Rooney was there. And [Angel] Di María was there. And [Memphis] Depay was there.
“When they failed to get me, they bought [Anthony] Martial.”
Mane went onto make 269 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 120 goals. He left Anfield for Bayern Munich in 2022.
