The Nigerian Army says it has repelled attacks by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Monguno town in Borno state.
The insurgents stormed the village in the early hours of today June 13 while many residents were fast asleep. They shot sporadically into the air causing many to flee their homes.
Security forces stationed in the village however engaged the sect members in a gun battle as the insurgents invaded the town in large numbers.
This attack comes days after the insurgents killed over 60 persons in some communities in Gubio Local Government Area of the state.
