Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda has revealed that his popular track Cash App was created with internet fraudsters, commonly called Yahoo boys, in mind.
In a recent interview with Clout Africa, Shmurda shared that he drew inspiration for the song after realizing how challenging online fraud can be. He wanted to release a track that acknowledges their struggles while also motivating them.
When asked, “What inspired Cash App? Were you involved in Yahoo?” Shmurda explained, “It’s Yahoo in the sense that they [Yahoo boys] need to dance. People who hustle like that need something to make them happy because internet fraud is stressful and full of challenges.
“The inspiration doesn’t always have a specific story. It just comes naturally it’s God-given. So, Cash App is divine.”
Released in 2020, Cash App featured Zlatan and Lincoln and quickly became a hit across Nigeria and several other African countries.
