Super Eagles of Nigeria forward, Terem Moffi has filed a lawsuit to terminate his existing contract with the French Ligue 1 side, OGC Nice.

Nigerian international and Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi has formally moved to terminate his contract with former Ligue 1 champions OGC Nice, citing serious safety concerns following a violent fan-related incident that has kept him off the pitch for weeks.

The 26-year-old striker has not featured for Nice since late November, after the team bus was ambushed by a group of club supporters following an away defeat. The incident has since escalated into a legal dispute that could see Moffi leave the French club as a free agent if his request is upheld.

Why does Terem Moffi want to leave OGC Nice?

The incident occurred on November 30, 2025, when Nice players were reportedly targeted by hundreds of supporters after a 3–1 loss to Lorient. Moffi and teammate Jérémie Boga were among those affected, with reports of physical intimidation, spitting, and verbal abuse by elements linked to the club’s ultras.

Both players have remained on extended sick leave since the incident, as the psychological impact has prevented a return to competitive action. While legal proceedings are ongoing against those directly involved in the violence, Moffi’s representatives argue that the club failed in its duty of care to adequately protect its players.

Moffi’s legal team is now pursuing contract termination under Articles 51 and 265 of the professional football charter, which allow players to seek release if an employer is deemed to have failed in ensuring safe working conditions.

The striker’s contract with Nice runs until June 2027, but his lawyers maintain that the relationship between player and club has broken down irreparably. Reports indicate that both Moffi and Boga no longer feel safe or willing to continue their careers at the Allianz Riviera.
