Media personality Daddy Freeze has called on Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti to take a step back from his ongoing online feud with superstar Wizkid and his supporters, cautioning that the dispute could unnecessarily tarnish the legacy of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
Speaking during an Instagram live session on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Freeze highlighted that Fela’s cultural contributions belong to all Nigerians, not solely his family.
The controversy started earlier this month when Wizkid’s fanbase, Wizkid FC, claimed that the Grammy-winning artist had eclipsed Fela’s influence on the global music stage.
Known for fiercely defending his father’s achievements in Afrobeat and activism, Seun responded with pointed remarks aimed at Wizkid and his followers, posting several videos criticizing the comparisons.
The online debate polarized fans, with many questioning whether Seun’s approach was enhancing or undermining Fela’s reputation.
Freeze intervened to ease tensions, urging Seun to prioritize preserving his father’s legacy over engaging in personal disputes.
He reminded Seun that Fela, as a trailblazer of Afrobeat and a champion of social justice, is considered a national icon whose influence extends beyond his family, even to contemporary artists like Wizkid.
During the live session, Freeze expressed his admiration for Seun but warned that his confrontational responses could inadvertently give detractors an opportunity to insult Fela, a risk Freeze deemed unacceptable.
