No fewer than 75 individuals have been arrested following a late-night enforcement operation carried out along the Coastal Road corridor in Lagos.

The operation was conducted by operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce as part of intensified efforts to flush out criminal elements and restore order in areas identified as security black spots.

According to a statement posted on Thursday on the official Facebook page of the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the enforcement exercise commenced at about 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

The statement revealed that a total of 75 suspects comprising 68 males and seven females were apprehended during the operation, while substances suspected to be illicit drugs were recovered at the scene.

However, the raid was marred by violence as one of the taskforce officers, Inspector Omosanjo Mohamed, was reportedly attacked by hoodlums and sustained a serious head injury. He is currently receiving medical treatment.

Reacting to the incident, the agency warned that attacks on law enforcement personnel carrying out lawful duties would not be tolerated, stressing that all suspects arrested during the operation would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The taskforce reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the clean-up and enforcement drive across Lagos, noting that the operation is aimed at restoring order, safeguarding public spaces, and ensuring the safety of law abiding residents.

Officials added that similar enforcement actions would continue across the state as part of broader efforts to curb criminal activities, address environmental infractions, and strengthen public safety.
