The Yobe State Police Command has rescued an abandoned newborn baby girl in Kallalawa village, Damaturu.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, May 25, 2026.

According to Abdulkarim, the newborn estimated to be one day old, was immediately taken to a hospital where doctors confirmed she was in stable condition.

“On 25th May, 2026, at about 1500hrs, operatives attached to A Division, Damaturu, rescued a newborn baby girl estimated to be one day old after she was discovered abandoned at Kallalawa Village,” the statement read.

“The infant was promptly taken to the Special Baby Care Unit, General Hospital Damaturu, where medical examination confirmed her to be in stable condition.

“The child was thereafter handed over to the Social Welfare Department for proper care and protection, while investigation has commenced to trace the mother and circumstances surrounding the abandonment.”
