Nigerian content creator and actress Amarachi Amusi, widely recognised as Ashmusy, has opened up about the emotional burden of turning 30 without being married or having children.
Speaking on BBC Africa’s podcast, The Conversation, the influencer discussed societal expectations, family pressure, and the personal decision that led her to freeze her eggs.
Ashmusy revealed that when she was younger, she always imagined she would have built a family by the time she reached 30. According to her, marriage and motherhood seemed like natural milestones that would happen along the way, especially as she had no shortage of admirers.
She explained that becoming a mother had long been one of her greatest aspirations. Throughout her twenties, she envisioned herself already settled down and raising children at this stage of her life.
The social media personality noted that the pressure did not come solely from her own expectations. Being the first daughter in her family meant relatives and members of society constantly anticipated that she would marry and start a family before turning 30.
Despite receiving attention from many potential partners over the years, Ashmusy said she became increasingly selective when it came to choosing a spouse, preferring to take her time rather than rush into a lifelong commitment.

“I always thought I would be married with children before I turned 30 because I had so many suitors while growing up. Becoming a mother has always been one of my biggest life goals. As the first daughter in my family, there was a lot of pressure from relatives who expected me to settle down early.
“Seeing so many relationships fail made me more careful about choosing the person I want to spend my life with. At this stage of my life, I value peace of mind and emotional stability more than trying to meet society’s expectations.
“Freezing my eggs gives me the freedom to make decisions about marriage and motherhood without feeling pressured by my age. My decision does not mean I am against marriage. I simply want to make the right choice at the right time.”
