At least eight coaches have lost their jobs following their teams’ elimination at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
NEWSUNPLUG reports that Portugal head coach, Roberto Martinez, is the latest manager to confirm he is stepping down from the role.
Martinez revealed this after Portugal’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup Round of 16 encounter on Monday night.
“My contract ends today. It’s the end of a cycle,” Martinez told reporters.
This is coming after Carlos Queiroz stepped down as Ghana head coach at the weekend following the Black Stars’ Round of 32 exit at the World Cup 2026.
The other six coaches who lost their jobs after their teams’ elimination from the World Cup are Julian Nagelsmann (Germany), Sebastián Beccacece (Ecuador), Ronald Koeman (Netherlands), Miroslav Koubek (Czechia), Steve Clarke (Scotland), and Hong Myung-bo(South Korea).
