20-year-old woman remanded over alleged m8rder of co-wife in Kano

A Chief Magistrates’ Court No. 2 has ordered the remanded a 20-year-old woman, Safiya Hussaini, in a correctional facility over the alleged murder of her co-wife.

Safiya, a resident of Loko town in Takai Local Government Area of Kano State, was arraigned before the court on a charge of culpable homicide.

The police charged the defendant with an offence contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code.

According to the first information report (FIR), the defendant allegedly engaged in a dispute with her co-wife and attacked her with a cutlass, inflicting fatal injuries that resulted in her d3ath.

When the charge was read to her, the prosecution informed the court that it lacked jurisdiction to try offences relating to culpable homicide and applied for an adjournment to enable it obtain legal advice from the state ministry of justice

Presiding over the case, Chief Magistrate Auwal Yusuf Sulaiman granted the application and adjourned the case for two weeks.

He also ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional centre pending further proceeding.
