England captain, Harry Kane, is currently the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or award this year, despite elimination in the hands of Argentina at the 2026 World Cup semi-finals, according to AS.
Although Kane scored six goals at the World Cup, he was outscored by Kylian Mbappé (10), Lionel Messi (eight), Erling Haaland and teammate Jude Bellingham (both seven).
Of those players, Mbappé and Messi are the ones who have the best chance of challenging Kane for the Ballon d’Or.
However, his biggest competition is expected to come from Rodri and Lamine Yamal, two members of the Spain squad that became world champions in North America.
It would be the first time that Kane claims the prize in his career.
The Bayern Munich striker scored 61 goals in 51 games for the Bundesliga giants last season, as they completed a league and cup double.
Since joining from Tottenham in 2023, Kane has netted 98 times in 94 appearances.
