Arsenal star, Ethan Nwaneri is eager to leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window following his exclusion from the Community Shield match against Manchester City on Sunday, according to Metro.
Nwaneri has been linked with a potential exit from Arsenal this summer after having spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at Marseille.
Despite a lackluster 2025-26 season, the 19-year-old remains one of the most esteemed talents in Europe.
He made history as the youngest player to participate in the Premier League when he debuted for Arsenal in 2022, subsequently securing a position as a regular in Mikel Arteta’s first-team lineup during the 2024-25 season.
During that season, Nwaneri made 37 appearances for his childhood club and received a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year award, along with a new long-term contract.
Expectations were high for him to continue his contributions last season; however, he only played in six league matches before being loaned to Marseille in January.
Arsenal management had hoped he would grow during his time in France, but Nwaneri managed only nine appearances in a disappointing loan spell before returning to the Premier League champions.
Despite his lack of impact at Marseille, Arteta maintained that Nwaneri would gain from his experience away from Arsenal, stating that “he returned looking like a different man.”
Arteta said after Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Girona in pre-season friendly, “On the pitch, he didn’t [perform] because a lot transpired in Marseille.
“However, when you stand in front of him, you can sense the maturity, and he appears to be a different individual.
“The experience, on paper, wasn’t ideal, but I believe he underwent something that will significantly aid his career,” Arteta added.
Before the Community Shield on Friday, Arteta acknowledged that Nwaneri might still depart Arsenal prior to the transfer deadline.
“I want him to remain at the club. However, we must consider the medium and long-term implications,” Arteta stated.
