Nollywood actress Mary Remmy Njoku has slammed the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Professor Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye, for her statement regarding the ignorance of Nigerians concerning food consumption.
Recall that during an interview with Business Day TV on Monday, the NAFDAC DG described Nigerians as very ignorant, and blamed the poor understanding of pesticide instructions and the responsibilities of regulatory agencies for some food safety challenges in the country.
“First of all, we are ignorant in this country. We are very ignorant. We don’t read. We don’t understand,” she said.
Afterwards, Mary Njoku took to her social media page to slam the NAFDAC DG for shifting the burden of her job onto the public. She told her not to expect the citizens to read their way out of their undone job.
The actress asked Mrs Adeyeye whether she is doing her job effectively or waiting for citizens to do it on her behalf.
“Madam NAFDAC!! Stop shifting the burden to consumers. We cannot READ our way out of weak inspection, inadequate testing and poor enforcement.
“Are you effectively regulating processed and semi-processed foods? Are you?
“ARE YOU?
“This isn’t about whether Nigerians READ labels. This is about whether the regulator is REGULATING. This is public health.
“Please, STOP DEFLECTING !!!!! Protect the public! Hear the cry of the people you have been called to serve!
Newsunplug recalls that Mary Njoku sent a crucial message to pastors on social media. She admonished them to stop offering spiritual solutions to problems that require practical action.
The mother of three noted that some pastors still use their platforms to encourage responsibility, action, and positive change. She further urged the public to deliberately celebrate and amplify such pastors.
