Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has advised young people to practise safe sex and avoid unplanned pregnancies if they are not financially prepared to raise a child.
The actress shared the advice after visiting a woman who reportedly wanted to sell her newborn baby to an unknown person.
In a video shared on social media, Martins explained that she initially hesitated to get involved but changed her mind after learning that the woman’s neighbours had taken her away, leaving the baby alone at home and crying uncontrollably.
Moved by the situation, the actress decided to visit the woman herself. However, she said the mother was unwilling to explain why she had considered selling her child, possibly out of fear.
Martins disclosed that she gave the woman some money before leaving, although she did not reveal the amount she provided.
Sharing her experience, the actress urged young people who are not financially capable of raising children to either abstain from sex or insist on using condoms to prevent unplanned pregnancies.
She wrote:
“News got to me today that she gave birth today and wanted to sell the baby to an unknown person.
At some point, I didn’t want to involve myself, but when the informant told me the neighbours dragged her out and left the baby alone at home, and he’s been crying uncontrollably, I was moved and had to go there.
On getting there, she was already released and was currently with her baby.
Probably out of fear, she wasn’t ready to open up about why she wanted to sell the child.
I just had to give her some money and go.
Dear youths, please, if you are not financially stable enough to take care of a baby, please abstain from s3x or insist on a condom”.
