Nollywood filmmaker Biodun Stephen has called for an end to the practice of publicly announcing cinema figures and viewership numbers, describing it as a distraction that puts pressure on others in the entertainment industry.
Sharing her opinion, the filmmaker said, “We should do away with announcing cinema numbers and views. It’s a distraction and puts pressure on other people.”
Her comments have drawn attention to the growing trend among filmmakers and content creators of publicly sharing their box office earnings and streaming figures to celebrate the success of their projects.
According to Biodun Stephen, constantly announcing these numbers can create unnecessary pressure on other industry players, potentially encouraging unhealthy comparisons rather than allowing everyone to focus on their work.
