Nigerian writer and social commentator Solomon Buchi has expressed support for Opeyemi Famakin following his remarks about the alleged sale of fake alcoholic drinks in Nigeria.
Buchi said he did not believe Famakin had said anything wrong, adding that his own experience working in a wine shop owned by an Igbo man supported the claim.
In a statement, Buchi said: “I don’t think Opeyemi has said anything remotely wrong. As an Igbo man, what he’s saying is true. I used to serve as Nwa boy in a wine shop that was ran by an Igbo man and the red label and Jack Daniels were all fake.”
His comments add to the ongoing conversation surrounding Famakin’s remarks about the authenticity of alcoholic drinks sold in the country.
Buchi’s statement has also brought his personal experience into the discussion, as he maintained that Famakin’s claims were not unfamiliar to him.
The issue has continued to draw attention to concerns about the sale of counterfeit alcoholic beverages and the importance of verifying the authenticity of products purchased from retailers.
