The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has threatened to expel Afam Ogene, a member of the House of Representatives, and initiate a recall process against him over alleged poor performance and misconduct.

In a statement released on Tuesday, May 20, in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, accused Ogene of being unfit to represent the Labour Party in the National Assembly, alleging he had become a tool for internal destabilization.

“He has been suspended from the party for his incapability to lead the party caucus in NASS (National Assembly),” Ifoh said.

The party also accused the lawmaker of being in possession of a classified document, purportedly obtained from the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, and called on security agencies to investigate the matter.

“A classified document, which should be with the I-GP or the minister of justice cannot be in Ogene’s possession,” Ifoh said. “He is expected to contribute in making laws in the National Assembly. How come he is now privy to classified documents from the IGP and AGF’s office?”

Ifoh suggested the document was being used by Ogene to politically attack both the Attorney-General and the Labour Party leadership. “He attempted to cyber-bully the attorney-general, the police, and the leadership of the party in what is clearly a political matter,” he stated.

The statement further alleged that Ogene’s conduct was in retaliation for his suspension and the Supreme Court’s affirmation of Julius Abure’s leadership, which dashed what Ifoh described as the lawmaker’s “evil intentions.”

“He and his sponsors had expected that by now, Abure’s leadership would have been terminated but they were surprised at the Supreme Court ruling, which put paid to their evil intentions,” Ifoh said.

“If the lawmaker continues in this trajectory, the party would have no choice but to expel him,” he added. “We will also institute his recall from his constituency because he is a disservice to the people of his constituency.”
