Halle Berry has asked a court to prevent her 13-year-old son, Maceo, from testifying in her custody dispute with former husband Olivier Martinez, alleging that Martinez has been coaching the boy.
In court documents obtained by TMZ, Berry claimed Martinez had spent weeks discussing the case and potential testimony with Maceo, raising concerns about whether his account would be independently expressed. She alleged that the discussions breached a 2024 court order prohibiting both parents from involving their son in their legal disputes.
Berry asked the judge to order Martinez to stop discussing the proceedings with Maceo and refrain from preparing or coaching him to testify. The dispute concerns an alleged September 26 incident in which Martinez claims Berry attacked their son following a disagreement over a virtual reality game. Berry has denied hurting Maceo.
She argued that the court already had evidence to consider, including video footage and eyewitness testimony from her boyfriend, Van Hunt, who was present during the incident. Berry also said requiring Maceo to testify would place additional emotional pressure on him amid the ongoing custody dispute. She accused Martinez of placing their son in the middle of a conflict that should be resolved by adults.
Martinez previously asked the court to allow Maceo to testify about the incident, which prompted him to seek a restraining order against Berry. Berry has also disputed the significance of a photograph allegedly taken by Maceo after the incident, arguing that it does not establish that he was injured. The former couple is scheduled to return to court on Friday.
