Ademola Lookman has shared his thoughts after a brilliant individual performance in Nigeria’s thrilling victory over Tunisia at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations ( AFCON).

The Atalanta forward was at the heart of the Super Eagles’ attacking play, having two assists and a goal to his name, delivering a display that underlined his growing importance to the national team. Lookman described the win as a positive step for Nigeria in the tournament, stressing the importance of starting strongly and maintaining control for large periods of the game.

He said,

“Three points on the board, so it’s a step in the right direction,” Lookman said after the game.We dominated from the first half to the second half. They had a spell where they scored two goals, but overall we were very good today.”

He noted that the Super Eagles executed their game plan well, particularly in the first half, and showed attacking intent that allowed them to take the initiative against a traditionally difficult Tunisian side. This performance earned him the man of the match award following his impressive game.

He also acknowledged that Tunisia’s late response made the contest tighter than expected but praised Nigeria’s composure and resilience in seeing out the result. According to the winger, such moments are part of tournament football and serve as valuable lessons as the competition progresses.

The Super Eagles will face Uganda in the final group game which will likely be a decider to see which team will finish top of the group.
