Chidozie Awaziem says winning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title with Nigeria will make for the disappointment of the country’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Eric Chelle’s side lost 4-3 on penalties to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final of the African playoffs.

The West Africans have now failed to qualify for the global soccer fiesta for the second consecutive edition.

Awaziem declared that it is important for the team to move on from the World Cup disappointment, and focus on the task ahead.

“Winning the AFCON is my focus with Nigeria. I don’t like to dwell on not qualifying for the World Cup. For us, for the country, for our loved ones, we have to correct this mistake,” Awaziem told FC Nantes official website.

Awaziem will be hoping to be included in Nigeria’s final squad for the AFCON 2025 finals.

The Super Eagles wil face the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in their opening fixture in Fez on Tuesday, 23 December.
