Former Cameroon striker, Samuel Eto’o, has said Senegal’s Sadio Mane should win the African Footballer of the Year award.
Mane previously won the award in 2021, after helping the Teranga Lions lift their first Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, title.
This year the Al Nassr forward played a key role as Senegal won AFCON again, defeating Morocco 1-0 in the final.
In an interview with FRANCE24, Eto’o praised Mane’s impact both on and off the pitch.
Eto’o spoke about how Mane stepped in during the tense moments after a late penalty was awarded to Morocco last Sunday.
He said, “I’m honoured to call him a friend, and his role in leading his team to victory was exceptional.
“I hope he wins the African Footballer of the Year again because what he did, especially his actions yesterday, show the qualities of a true leader.”
