Senegal forward, Sadio Mane, has slammed the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) recent decision over the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

On Tuesday, CAF decided to strip Senegal’s 2025 AFCON title and awarded it to Morocco.

The ruling, handed down by the CAF Appeal Board, has effectively rewritten the history of the tournament’s final.

According to the official verdict, Senegal’s abandonment of the pitch during the chaotic final match in January constituted a forfeit.

Consequently, the board nullified the original result and awarded Morocco a 3-0 walkover victory, declaring them the new continental champions.

However, in a statement released on Instagram, Mane did not hold back his fury, as he alleged that corruption is undermining the sport and eroding the passion of supporters across Africa.

“What has happened here goes too far. This is not the football we fight for, nor the Africa we believe in,” Mane said as quoted by GOAL.

“There is too much corruption in our sport, and that is killing the passion of millions of fans across the continent. The players give their all on the pitch, but decisions off the pitch determine the outcome of matches and titles.”
