Tunisian right-back, Yan Valery, has explained why his team lost 3-2 to Nigeria in their Africa Cup of Nations match in Morocco.

He also talked about what they learnt from the loss and what they plan to do for the rest of the tournament.

When asked about the main lessons from Tunisia’s narrow 3-2 loss to Nigeria, Yan Valery was honest about the team’s weaknesses.

Valery talked to reporters in the mixed zone and talked about how Tunisia played the match and what changes are needed to get back on track.

He said, “We had too much respect for Nigeria. I think especially in the first half we weren’t aggressive enough with the first and second balls.”

Valery explained how their careful approach affected the game, pointing out that hesitating against a team as strong as Nigeria can lead to quick problems.

“And when you do that against good players like these, you get punished right away.

“So that’s what we learn from this game, and now we need to use that knowledge and respond fast for the next one.”

The Carthage Eagles will now try to recover from their loss as they face Tanzania in their last group stage match on Tuesday.

A win is very important for Tunisia because they want to move on to the next round of the Africa Cup of Nations.
