Hugo Broos, head coach of South Africa, has snubbed the Bafana  Bafana and teams such as Nigeria and defending champions Ivory Coast while selecting Morocco as the number favourite to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Broos insisted that the Atlas Lions have a strong squad that could secure the title in January, 2026.

Speaking about the 2025 AFCON, Broos stated (via Flashscore): “It’s always very dangerous to put yourself [South Africa] as favourite.

“The tournament this year will be tougher than the last one held in Ivory Coast. I think if you can call a favourite, it’s Morocco.

“They [Morocco] are a very good team and playing at home,” he admitted.

Morocco now leads Group A with three points and will tackle Zambia and Mali in their next matches after beating Comoros in their opening game.
