Galatasaray forward, Victor Osimhen has spoken about wearing the captain’s armband for the first time after the Super Eagles won 3-1 against Uganda on Tuesday night.

Osimhen, one of the three players who stayed in the starting lineup, got the armband instead of Wilfred Ndidi, who was given a rest before the knockout stage.

Nigeria will play Mozambique in the round of sixteen of the tournament.

After the game against Uganda, Osimhen talked to reporters in the mixed zone and shared how proud he felt leading the national team.

He said the experience was both emotional and made him feel stronger.

“It feels so good. For me, it’s beautiful to try to lead the team,” he said.

“I believe I have gained enough experience to lead the team, and the coach trusts me. So they listen to me just as I listen to them.

“For me, it was a huge pleasure and honor because when I led the team out, they won the game, and we also made it to the Round of 16.”

He said that wearing the captain’s armband made him feel more responsible during the match.

Osimhen explained that being a captain gave him a sense of belonging, allowing him to meet the referee and talk to them when his teammate was injured.
