Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has said that Wilfred Ndidi is best suited to become the team’s next captain.

He believes that the Besiktas midfielder is already seen as a leader by his teammates.

According to Oliseh, former Leicester City midfielder, Ndidi, commands strong respect in the Super Eagles squad.

“At the moment, I think nobody doubts the respect the players have for Ndidi. And he’s a player that plays every game,” he said on the Oliseh Insight Podcast.

“I am not trying to push for who is going to be captain, but I think Ndidi is already the captain anyways because he captained the last game.”

Oliseh, a former Nigerian coach, who once picked Ahmed Musa over John Mikel Obi as the national team captain, said whoever is eventually named captain should show quality leadership.

Oliseh noted that being a good captain takes more than wearing the armband or waiting for instructions from the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

Nigeria will be in Morocco for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nation where they have been drawn in Group C to face Tunisia, Uganda and Tanzania.
