Algeria captain, Riyad Mahrez has vowed that the team will come back stronger after their 2-0 defeat to Nigeria at the ongoing AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Mahrez was unable to save the Desert Foxes as two goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams gave the Super Eagles the victory against the North Africans.

The outcome of the match means Algeria are out of the AFCON, while Nigeria progressed to the semi-final stage, where they will face host country Morocco in the coming days.

Reacting, Mahrez, in a post on X on Sunday, also admitted that he was disappointed his country was eliminated from the tournament.

“Disappointed by the elimination but proud of this team and this group, in success as in the more difficult moments,” Mahrez, a former Manchester City winger, tweeted.

“Thank you to our supporters and to all the Algerian people for your support throughout the competition. We will come back stronger, as always.”
