Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has directed his legal counsels to withdraw any defamation suit he filed against some persons in any court.

He gave the directive after being moved by the New Year Mass he heard from a priest at the Sacred Heart Parish in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state on Thursday morning, January 1.

Speaking after the mass, Akpabio told the congregants that he had filed nearly nine lawsuits against individuals he accused of defaming him but will withdraw them now following the message he just heard from the priest.

“I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me, who slandered my name.

But I listened to the priest and suddenly realised he was talking to me, so I hereby direct my solicitor to withdraw all lawsuits against them.”he said

In 2025, Akpabio had filed several high-profile defamation lawsuits, including one against colleague Senator Natasha Akpoti‑Uduaghan who accused him of sexual harassments. He instituted a N200 billion defamation lawsuit against her after he denied the allegation and asked her to prove the claim in court.
