Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has sparked outrage online after sharing a video showing the deplorable living conditions of the Nigerian national team’s accommodation ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier playoff against Gabon.

In the now-viral clip posted on his social media, Iwobi gave fans a glimpse into the dilapidated state of the team’s hotel, where laundry was scattered, and signs of neglect and poor maintenance were evident. The video quickly drew criticism from supporters and football enthusiasts, many of whom expressed disappointment over the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) handling of player welfare.

Fans questioned why a team representing one of Africa’s biggest footballing nations would be subjected to such conditions, especially ahead of a crucial World Cup qualifying match.

So far, ten Super Eagles players have arrived in Rabat, Morocco, where the team is camped ahead of the Thursday, November 13 showdown with Gabon. The encounter is pivotal for Nigeria’s campaign, as a win would see them advance to the final playoff against either Cameroon or DR Congo.

Neither the NFF nor team officials have issued an official response to the viral footage, but the controversy has once again reignited debate over poor management, funding, and preparation within Nigerian football.

Alex Iwobi is trending because the Super Eagles star, made a video of the unimpressive hotel NFF lodged the team in Rabat, Morrocco ahead of Nigeria’s World Cup Playoffs vs. Gabon.

NFF not CAF, booked the hotel, per FIFA rules.
